Gearing up for the river

Today we had an early morning in Cody Wyoming, where we were woken up by Grant wearing an old man mask singing “wake up children”, kinda scary. We started the day off ready to raft the rapids of the Shoshone River with Wyoming River Trips. Each rafting group consisted of 9 people and a raft guide. We were all guided down the rapids rowing and taking on the waves. Some of us even took a dip or ‘rode the bull’ (the seat on the front of the raft, you take on the most water). By the end of the trip most of us couldn’t even feel our toes and were dreaming of a warm shower back at the campsite.

Our counselors made us breakfast!

Dexter munching on that food

We were welcomed back to Ponderosa, our campsite, with a home cooked breakfast treat from our counselors, filling our bellies with eggs, sausage, grits and orange juice. After we ate our portions, we ran like bulls in different directions – laundry, showers, and doing our assigned jobs, we had to make our rounds. We were squeezing into the vans, sopping wet, with a deep desire for clean clothes. Eli had a rough go at laundry with washing his anti-itch cream… Eli 0 -- Anti-Itch Cream 1. After laundry, the shower line grew in flash, each person taking longer than the next preparing for the rodeo later that night. Luckily, jobs were easy to do since we divided and conquered with different tasks.

Towards the middle of the day lunch was set out as a hodge podge of leftovers ranging from PB & J to chips & salsa. Most of us ventured out into downtown Cody to chow down on some famous bison or elk burgers. Others continued with their financial burden of spending money on impulsive purchases. We were also given the chance to call home if we had extra time at the campsite, which some relaxed at camp and took advantage of the phones available. Some people even played mini golf, rated a 10/10 by the players, and Garret won a free Dairy Queen blizzard for making a hole in one on the final shot. While some participants were making calls, others were in an intense game of pool or falling asleep waiting for their turn. We came back to the campsite arms full of shopping bags and some till had the munchies and indulged in the dinner, while others were too stuffed to indulge.

Boys cleaning in their rodeo fits

One of the public campground bathrooms was fully taken over by TWB girls getting cute and ready for the rodeo. The room smelled like a hair salon, from the burning hair, and the inside of bath and body works, we love our perfume! While the girls were getting primped and pampered the boys were cutting their pants to jorts and making cutoff t-shirts. As the Sleepys prepped our dinner, some volunteers joined Caleb and Ian on a bubbly soapy adventure toooo the car wash! The kids did such a great job and we appreciate their hard work, now the counselors can see through the windows. We rushed to eat dino nuggies, mac-n-cheese, and corn quickly so we could make our way to the rodeo!!

TWB stormed downtown to squeeze a quick purchase of matching cowboy hats and even some expensive belts to top off our rodeo looks. On our way we were met by a long line of traffic with country roads backed up leading up to the rodeo. Taking our seats just in the nick of time to catch the national anthem and the number 1 bull rider in the world scoring 86.50 and securing second place at the end of the night. During the rodeo action others ventured away from the stands and tried a go at the mechanical bull, bought some snacks, took cute pictures and shopped in the gift shop.  Ethan, Jake, Landen, and Aiden were able to get their pump in by attempting the Army pull up challenge, with some of them even earning a prize.

Cowboys for a day!

One last song before we leave

After the winners got their belt trophy’s, TWB brought the energy to the live music. (We didn’t even know the rodeo came with a live performance.) The band gave a special birthday shout out to Lauren and Harris and we got to put our TWB twist on Sweet Home Alabama (Bama Bama Bama Woooh!!). We transformed the space in front of the stage into a dance floor and got to bring to turn the show into a fun concert. Even though we wanted to stay longer and party, we needed to get back to camp and get ready for bed.

We ended our rodeo and rafting day blogging to y’all from the Dairy Queen near camp, typing with our sweets in hand. This is the Happys signing off for the night (knowing that we need to get good sleep for Mount Rushmore tomorrow!) With love - Bryce, Olivia, Emily, Eli, Scotland, Katelyn, Dexter, Sarah, Ethan, Phin, Jana, Garrett, Riley, Brooklyn, and Sophie Jaq!

*We are on the road as we finish up the blog, more photos and captions to come!
